Strategies for Taking Notes
Central concepts of the course and material most likely to appear on exams are presented during lectures. This workshop will provide suggestions for various methods of note taking along with practical tips on what to do before, during, and after the lecture.
- Note Taking Suggestions:
- · Arrive on time and attend lectures faithfully
- · Take notes on one side of the page only
- · Use a loose-leaf notebook or a file folder
- · Write legibly and be brief
- · Leave blanks for gaps--words, phrases or ideas
- · Develop your own system of enumeration and indentation
- · Develop abbreviations of common words and recurring terms
- · Be alert for clues
- · Pay as close attention to the end of a lecture as to the beginning
- · Review your notes soon after the lecture
